Bud Vase Challenge: Backyard Edition

Having fresh flowers or greenery in the house changes something in the air. It makes it feel like home. A space that’s cared for and well loved. I just love indulging in the little things of life like having fresh flowers on the table. It romanticizes life in a way that I think it deserves.

For some of us, purchasing fresh flowers each week might not be in the budget, and that’s okay! You can still indulge and enjoy fresh flowers and greens if you get a little creative. I’m starting a bud vase challenge where I choose a location or a theme and see what beautiful things I can find to put together a mini arrangement for my kitchen counter.

The beauty of bud vases is that they are small and don’t require many stems. Simplicity is key. You may be tempted to over stuff the little vase, but keep in mind that most bud vases arrangements have 3-5 stems, allowing it’s audience to truly see and appreciate the beauty of each stem.

This week’s theme: The Backyard

For some of you, this might be a breeze. You may have a garden full of blooming fresh flowers to choose form. Although we have pretty landscaping, there are not many flowers blooming in my yard at the moment so this was truly a challenge that encouraged me to be creative and look at every plant as an option because there was not much to choose from.

The flowers I did find were in poor shape so opted for a neutral look comprised of greens, berries and buds and I just love the outcome! The texture of the berries adds whimsy and the contrast of the dark green against our light kitchen is fresh and dramatic, a perfect little pop of life to make the house look thoughtfully put together.

The Vase

The vase adds to the beauty of the arrangement just as much as the flowers. Choose something you love to look it. Buy a beautiful bud vase, thrift something vintage, borrow one, or see what glassware you have at home that may work, such as wine glasses, champagne or cocktail glasses!

One of my favorite bud vases that I keep on my desk is a La Fermiere yogurt clay yogurt cup.

You’d be surprised what you can create with so little to choose from. Treat yourself this week to a creative adventure and do your own bud vase challenge.

And remember not to judge your creation, if it’s beautiful to you then it is beautiful indeed.

Happy arranging!
