Birth Month Flowers: The Meaning Behind Every Month's Bloom

Did you know that every month has its own flower? Just like birthstones, birth flowers have unique meanings and make for a fun and thoughtful gift for birthdays and special occasions. Here’s a quick guide to the birth flower for each month of the year!

January – Carnation

Carnations symbolize love, admiration, and devotion. These long-lasting blooms come in a large variety of colors and are a cheerful way to brighten the winter months.

Carnations are so underrated in my opinion! The petals are velvet soft, the flowers last SO long and will likely outlive all other blooms in your vase. They also have the most subtle sweet aroma. Carnations will always keep their place at our mobile bouquet bar.

February – Violet

The delicate violet represents faithfulness, humility, and wisdom. Its sweet appearance makes it a perfect symbol for February birthdays.

March – Daffodil

One of the first signs of spring, daffodils symbolize new beginnings, hope, and renewal. Their bright yellow blooms bring instant happiness!

April – Daisy

Daisies represent innocence, purity, and joy. Their simple beauty makes them one of the most recognizable flowers in the world.

There are many different varieties of daisies. The Gerbera Daisy is a crowd favorite at our flower bar. They come in a large variety of colors and they are one of the happiest looking blooms!

May – Lily of the Valley

Known for its tiny bell-shaped blooms, lily of the valley symbolizes sweetness, happiness, and a return to joy.

This one holds a special place in my heart! Growing up in north eastern Ohio, this little cutie was common in shady landscape beds and I have fond memories of playing in these flowers.

June – Rose

The rose is a timeless symbol of love and beauty. Different colors carry different meanings, making roses a versatile and meaningful flower for June birthdays. Not only are there different varieties of stunning colors, but also different varieties of roses. From spray roses which are smaller with multiple blooms to stem, to garden roses which are large and luxurious! They almost don’t even look like a rose.

July – Larkspur

Larkspur represents positivity, strong bonds, and an open heart. Its tall, colorful blooms make a beautiful addition to summer bouquets.

August – Gladiolus

Gladiolus symbolizes strength, integrity, and remembrance. These striking flowers stand tall and make a bold statement.

Gladiolus are wonderful for creating impressive or abstract bouquets. They are line flowers meaning they are tall and skinny, meant to add height and dimension to your arrangements. It’s a great flower to make your bouquet pop!

September – Aster

Asters are associated with wisdom, faith, and love. Their star-shaped blooms add beautiful texture and color to late summer and fall arrangements. This one is a sweet filler flower to try in your bouquets.

October – Marigold

Marigolds symbolize warmth, creativity, and passion. Their rich gold and orange tones perfectly capture the feeling and warmth of autumn.

November – Chrysanthemum

Chrysanthemums represent friendship, happiness, and longevity. They are a favorite flower during the fall season.

Chrysanthemums are also beautiful as focal flowers because of their size. Give them a try!

December – Narcissus (Daffodil) & Holly

The narcissus, which is actually another name for daffodil, symbolizes hope, good wishes, and new beginnings. This and Holly are both considering December birth flowers/plants. Holly is a stunning, bright right berry. Berries, in my opinion, are underrated for bouquets! Anytime we include berries at the flower bar, such as pink St. Johns wort, it’s always a hit!
